Back in the saddle

What's happening family ?

Just wanted to let the faithful know the President is back up at 2K for a minute. I have a lot to do and a short time to get it done so I won't be posting an awful lot but I may drop some tidbits now and again.

After being away from the game for about 6 weeks I can already notice even more polish on the title since the last time I played it. Controls are much more responsive than 2k11. If you spent any time with 2k11 the difference is immediately noticeable. Graphically the game looks dam good.

On the AI front. This is hands down the smartest computer opponent I have faced both defensively and offensively. If inside drive was the AI standard then you can go ahead and reserve that title for 2K12.

Some of you have seen my blogs on the plays in 2K12 and wondered if the defense has the capability to provide balance. So far the answer is a resounding Yes.

I am not a great cheeser by any means so take this with a grain of salt but thus far I have not been able to spam the lead pass or the hop step. I have seen the cpu wade get bumped when hop stepping directly into a defender and loose the ball. As I understand it the worse the ballhandler the higher the liklehood of a unsuccessful hop step.

The games have a terrific pace for them that seems perfect for a 12 minute per quarter game. Only time will tell but I won't have the opportunity for many full games @ that time signature.

Well it's time for me to jump back in considering my limited time I won't be taking many questions but if you post one and I can get to it during a break I just might.

Time to go. Granger is killing the Knicks right now... Its going to be a long few weeks til I get my copy : (

  1. Czar It's LM1213 from OS forums. What %wise in your opinion has the passing been improved? Were you able to hit the man who you were passing to? P. S. Keep up the great work.

  2. Sounds awesome brother. See if you can tell Rob to send his boy WT a copy for when you get yours. I'd hate for you to have it early, with nobody to play against, haha. Have fun with it man.

  3. Honestly, what you've reported about the game till this point has gotten me much more excited than most of the sparse information 2K has been putting out. Thanks for that tidbit... I'm hyped already. Can't wait for vids.

  4. @LM I have been using a healthy dose of icon passing. General passing "appears" to be better but I would need to try to use it more before giving a percentage. I will try but years of icon passing might be too hard to overcome. LOL

  5. @Will what up ? I will hollar at him but I bet guys will have the game from their mom and pops before I get my copy. LOL

    @eko thank you.

  7. good to know the hopstep will not be abused this time. i suppose the spin dunk will also get bumped?

  8. hopstep & leadpass potentially balanced? see thats why we love 2K. They don't let issues linger for years and years. One year is all you get Cheesers! lovin' the info.

  9. Hey Czar great job on the posts so far but I just gotta know one thing. Has 2k updated the My Player hair styles? cause the old ones just weren't cuttin it at least for black players imo..

  10. @IMakattack I haven't spent anytime in myplayer other than watching the demo they gave to Steve today.

  11. @ Da_czar thanks homie. Yeah know what you mean been icon passing myself. Ha. Try out regular passing if you get around to it or remember. Thanks for answering though. Appreciate it.

  12. Wow I'm becoming more and more hyped for this game by the day

  13. peace czar .
is the dribbling / moving more responsive ?
the one thing ive always disliked about 2k is the feeling of no control .
    any difference this year ?

  14. @Johnni to me every year since the great debacle of 2k10 control has been noticeably better. This year is no different. Once the insight drops on player control I can talk more about how I feel these changes will help those who I felt had trouble negotiating the chained sizeup's

So yes definitely better. Only time will tell if you feel its a big enough improvement to enjoy the game.

  15. What happens if you spam the pumpfake? Will you draw a foul? Can players still dribble around endlessly without losing the ball? Can big men still eurostep with ease?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Are step backs jumpers still overly effective?

  17. I can't wait. BTW, you'll know who I am on OS because I will be quoting you in my sig....

    That is awesome stuff.

  18. @bfrederi it's difficult to do. I actually can't do it or I loose the ball. In fact in the training camp they tell you the more you pumpfake the higher the likelyhood you will loose the ball.
Unless I am missing something its a non issue. With the ball being live if they touch it while your faking it's gone anyway.

I don't know how I would be able to tell you that fam ? I don't have time to just shoot a ton and count how many fall LOL so I will have to leave that unanswered. I have missed some with descent defense. lol

  19. That's great! Thanks for the information! Hope this gives the cheesers more obstacles.

Also the decision chaining for AI sounds awesome. No more locked in stagnant AI opponents. So glad they took your input on everything.

  20. Do the arms still break, dislocate, and magically move out of the way every time you go up for a block?

  21. As far as the post game, are there more options in the way of escaping or taking advantage of a double team? whether it be post moves or passing. i remember last year as soon as i touched the ball in the post(crew games) there would be a instant double team leaving me no time to react. usually ending up in a steal or ineffective pass.

  22. Hey Czar, would you happen to know if the pc version of 2k12 will be as good as it is on the consoles?

    ReplyDelete
  23. It should be pretty much the same game. I find the graphics better on the pc version especially after the user patches. AfAIK the pc version is in no way inferior to the console versions. With the exception of it getting the patches much later.

    ReplyDelete
  24. @sactown not sure if it should be as effective as your expecting ? The point of the double team is to force you to get rid of the ball. So I am not sure if you just mean you felt it was a bit over the top in 2k11.

I will keep an eye out for that to see if it's overdone.

  25. @sway blocks so far look good. I have not seen them move an appendate to not allow a block however I have seen the arm do that rotate thing but that didn't cause a block.

On the whole though it's still could be bad and I just have a small sample size.

  26. @ LM I tried the direction passing and it seemed much better. The only issues I had was with 2 players in the same area one in front of the other. I will continue tonight and see if it continues to respond well.

Please keep in mind I am capturing for shows and not just sitting around playing the game so there may be things I am not seeing due to the fact that my focus isn't on just playing and having fun like when you guys play the demo.

  27. DEmo!?!?! WHAT!?!? WHEN??? Yeah, I know. Even if you knew you couldn't tell us before the official announcement, but how about this? Can you tell us when the announcement will be? Ok, I know I'm pushing it. Thanks for everything Czar. Never posted before, but I've been a fan for years. Keep up the good work!

  28. Czar, appreciate you keeping my question in mind and looking out for it. Sounds great, even a noticeable improvement is great. Two people in the same spot or close is expected. Thanks again for the follow up.

  29. Thanks for the response, Czar! Is streetball still in the game? If so, have they changed anything? And please tell me they have more than one court!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Thanks for the reply Czar. And i understand the double is meant to force a player to pass the ball. i wasnt very clear with my question. i was referring to movements to get a better angle on cutters/shooters like my main man c-webb used to do. he was a great passer. just seemed to me, in 2k11,(and i might be alone on this) that the defenders more or less were able to put me in a body bag. thought it was a little overdone especially against good passing big men

    ReplyDelete
  31. big czar, thanks for the write up. giving this the nod over inside drive is big news. it seems some elements from live 10 have also been brought over ie, ease of play calling, some dribble anims. is that fair to say?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Great Dzar.

By watching the new video of 2K12, I've noticed that it seems like defending a payer under the rim is still pretty hard, somewhat unrealistically hard. When you bring second defender on him, it seems like the second defender is still a non-factor unless you double him and get into a canned "double team" animation.

The help D still can't make a real difference to the post player. Hopefully, my voiced could be heard by 2K via you, president. Thank you!
